WHY YOGA?

Why Yoga

One of the aims of yoga practice is to help improve the functional mobility of your body and in turn your mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. We are all living longer these days and yoga is one way of caring for your body which can allow you to be more active as we age.  Regular yoga practice helps to build stamina and resilience as well as self-esteem and can reduce anxiety and improve mental health. Yoga is an amazing practice that can be enjoyed by all, regardless of physical abilities, size, age, gender and religious beliefs. Yoga is a means of self-regulation. Other benefits of practicing yoga regularly include increased flexibility and muscle strength, improved bone health, improved joint and cartilage health, improved balance, improved sleep to name but a few. So, whoever you are and whatever your life looks like, yoga can make a positive contribution to it.

"Yoga is self-care, it is showing yourself the kindness you deserve."

A little bit

ABOUT RADHA

Thank you for taking the time to visit the site. Here is a little bit about me and my qualifications and where my passion to guide others through this amazing practice comes from.

MY YOGA JOURNEY...

... began almost 20 years ago. Yoga has been my go to in one form or another. Like many who practice yoga, my aspirations were to  become more flexible and get my body into exotic looking poses. What started out as a purely physical pursuit has become so much more. Yoga has, of course, challenged and shaped my physical body, but more importantly it has organically permeated into every aspect of my life. I find myself more able to cope with the constant chattering of my mind. Yoga has given me the tools that allow me to be more present, content and take life less seriously. Yoga has opened the doorway to finding joy in the being of everyday life.

I love being a student and am constantly adding to my knowledge base so that I can deepen my understanding of Yoga and be a better guide for my studentsI am forever grateful to all my teachers and their teachers before them, for their guidance and teachings. Yoga is an endless journey for body, mind and spirit. Don't take my word for it, come and practice with me and find out for yourself. I wish to give my students the space to experience not only the physical but also the wonderful mental benefits of yoga. I practice and teach yoga in a non-judgmental and open minded way, recognising that every body is different and that one’s yoga practice can vary from day to day. As one of my teachers told me’ “It’s called yoga practice, not yoga perfect!” With this in mind I aim to provide a safe, relaxed and fun space for my students to develop more awareness of their bodies, allowing them to find more freedom and joy in body, mind and spirit. I hope to see you on the mat soon.

About Radha

WHAT STUDENTS SAY...

Natalie, Rickmansworth

I have only been practising yoga with Radha for a year but I don’t think I can ever stop now. Such a warm, welcoming and encouraging teacher, Radha brings a sense of serenity to her classes and inspires you to be curious about what you can achieve in each class. I always feel that I am enriched by each class I take, aches and pains brought on my hours of doing nothing but working at a desk during the pandemic took their toll and now I can move more freely and sleep better too! Thank you Radha x

Ruth, Rickmansworth

Stepping into Radha’s studio is like stepping into another world - a calm and nourishing one. Her classes leave you feeling more relaxed and yet at the same time you know your body has worked. It is a wonderful way to end the week and go into the weekend.

FAQs

FAQs

Some frequently asked questions...

Do I need to book a space before coming to class?

The studio operates on a booking system, as we have limited spaces you will need to book your place in class before you attend. Booking is simple, you can click here to book.

What should I wear?

You should wear comfortable clothing that will allow you to move your body freely. Bring an extra layer with you for the end of the class. Yoga is practiced bare foot.

What should I bring with me?

An open mind and your lovely self plus a mat. All other equipment is provided. You are welcome to bring your own props too. You can bring a bottle of water for the class.

Can I eat before class?

It is best to leave at least three hours between your last meal and your class.

Can I practice yoga if I'm not flexible?

Absolutely, yes! Yoga is a practice for all, regardless of your current flexibility, strength and stamina. Practicing yoga will help to improve your flexibility and strength and make your body a happier place to inhabit.

Is Vinyasa Flow for beginners?

Vinyasa Flow is a dynamic form of yoga where we move to the rhythm of the breath. It may feel challenging to begin with - listening to instructions, keeping the breath steady while moving in and out of poses. But with a regular practice you will find yourself moving in and out of poses effortlessly and feeling invigorated as you practice. If you stick with it, you will reap the many benefits yoga has to offer. Regardless of experience levels everyone enjoys the final pose of class - Savasana - a blissful relaxing end to every class.

How often should I practice yoga?

Like most things in life, the more your practice the quicker you'll see and feel the benefits of your efforts. Once a week is the perfect commitment to make initially and as and when your life allows you to, you can fit in more classes. The more you practice the more you will feeling stronger and more flexible both in body and mind.

Can I practice if I am recovering from an injury?

Yes you can, as long as your health professional has given you the all clear. Yoga has been proven to help those with sports injuries heal quicker as well as help alleviate some chronic conditions. I will ask you to complete a registration form before your first class and we will have a chat about any concerns you may have so that I can offer you modifications to suit your body. Yoga can help to strengthen the whole body.
